Evaluation" Background: Abbey Primary School is located on the edge of Newtownards in County Down. We are very fortunate that our school is built on a large site, with ample greenspace for our pupils to use and explore. In 2019/20 we commenced our Forest School programme.

Boundary Forest School setting: Most of our pupils live within an urban setting and our on-site outdoor environment provides a safe, enclosed space in which they can extend their learning and develop new skills. It is a tremendous benefit to our children, providing them with a natural environment where they can experience a real sense of freedom, enriching their education and well-being. We have an active Eco-Club and Outdoor learning club as part of our extra-curricular activities. These clubs aim to increase the environmental awareness of the children in a fun and practical way. We pride ourselves on being an Eco-Friendly school and we have been awarded the prestigious Eco Green Flag award 5 times. As part of our school s Health Policy we have an emphasis on our environment and developing our children s knowledge of their role within it. We aim to provide a happy, safe and secure environment where each child can reach their full potential and the Forest school ethos helps us achieve this. With parental help, over recent years we have built a purpose made outdoor classroom, eco garden, poly tunnel and mud kitchen area. We were also very fortunate to be awarded an Ernest Cook Trust Outdoor Essentials Grant in 2020 to purchase waterproof clothing for our pupils.
